Solar Roof Transformation
This Plantation, Florida home was transformed from an outdated shingle roof to a custom Englert 1300 Series standing seam metal roof featuring a Dark Bronze Kynar paint finish. Sun Catcher Roofing selected the mechanically seamed roof system to provide long-term durability while allowing the new solar array to be attached without penetrations through the roof, creating an ideal combination of metal roofing and solar technology.
The solar system was designed to produce enough energy to offset the homeowner’s annual FPL electricity usage based on projected production and consumption. As a Tier 2 solar system, the project also required $1 million in liability insurance to meet FPL interconnection requirements. Excess solar energy produced when the home is not using it can be exported to the electric grid under applicable utility rules. With electricity costs changing over time, the system was designed to provide a long-term hedge against rising energy expenses, with a projected return on investment of approximately five years based on the project’s original assumptions.
